Executive Coaching

Executive coaching is a form of personal and business development designed to assist an individual or a team to develop their effectiveness and release their potential.

It is focused on either a single specific topic or issue or a number of issues which are important to the individual or team’s development in the context of their work responsibilities.

It involves a process of exploration, assisted by the coach, designed to develop insight and to enable the person or team to find their own solutions to the issues which they choose to work on.

A coaching intervention typically involves some initial analysis with the individual’s manager or with each individual member of the team to assess the current position and examine the goal of the coaching, followed by a series of four to six coaching sessions of around one and a half hours each, spaced over a period of a few months, at which the individual or team, guided by the coach, chooses a topic or topics to explore and work on, and the development of action plans to address those topics.

Usually, in the case of individual coaching, there is a wrap up session with the individual’s manager at the end of the process to assess impact.

Executive coaching for an individual works best with a someone who is motivated to improve their performance either to be better at what they do or to move on to a new role. Coaching is designed to allow the individual time and a structured approach to examining their performance and developing realistic, creative and challenging options for change. It supports new ways of working. It can enable people to operate in different ways or to maximise their impact and performance.

Similarly for a team, executive coaching works well with a team who are collectively focused on improving their performance or managing a change.
